Schisandra Berry Extract

Schisandra chinensis — the "five-flavor berry," standardised for schisandrin content, supplied for liver-support and stress-resilience formulations.

2% schisandrins 500–1000mg trade dose ref. COA per batch
Overview

A berry extract with a distinct liver-support positioning.

Schisandra Berry is our first berry-based extract in the range — the rest of the catalogue spans roots, leaf and mushroom fruiting bodies. In Chinese, it's traditionally known as "wu wei zi," the five-flavor berry, named for its distinctive characteristic of carrying all five basic tastes at once. We supply standardised to 2% schisandrins.

Its formulation positioning is genuinely distinct from the more purely energy-focused adaptogens elsewhere in our range — Schisandra is most often specified for liver-support and stress-resilience stacks. Every batch carries a certificate of analysis confirming schisandrin content by HPLC. See Quality Assurance for the full testing process.

Formulation notes

Where this extract typically gets used.

Liver-support formulas

The most distinct use case in our range — specified where liver-support positioning is the primary formulation goal, rather than general energy or stamina.

Stress-resilience blends

Also formulated into broader adaptogenic stress-support stacks, often alongside Rhodiola Rosea or Ashwagandha.

Sourcing & ethics

Where it comes from, and how we hold that to a standard.

Trade buyers increasingly need to answer sourcing questions themselves — here's what we can tell you about this specific ingredient.

GMP-certified processing

Grown and processed at a GMP-certified facility in China, audited on our own schedule rather than taken on trust from a spec sheet — see Quality Assurance.

Established Northeast Asian growing regions

Sourced from regions with generations of dedicated Schisandra cultivation, rather than opportunistic growing on land with no track record for the crop.

Long-term supplier relationships

We work with established processing partners on an ongoing basis rather than opportunistic spot-buying, which supports both batch-to-batch consistency and supply continuity.

Batch traceability

Every batch is traceable back to its processing facility and harvest window — ask if you need this documented for your own supply-chain due diligence.

Common questions

Schisandra Berry, answered.

It's the traditional Chinese name for the plant — "wu wei zi" — reflecting the berry's distinctive characteristic of carrying all five basic tastes (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent) at once. It's a genuine botanical characteristic of the fruit, not a marketing description.

Schisandra has documented effects on the CYP450 liver-enzyme system, which is the pathway many pharmaceutical drugs are metabolised through. This means it can genuinely affect how other medications are processed — a more specific mechanism than a general "may interact" caution, worth flagging clearly to anyone formulating alongside prescription medication.

By HPLC, per batch, with the certificate of analysis showing the tested schisandrin percentage for the specific batch you're buying.

It follows the standard Starter tier from 1–10kg/month — see Wholesale & Trade Accounts for the full tier structure.

Its effect on liver-enzyme drug metabolism means it warrants closer attention than most of our range — see the Safety & Risk Information above. This isn't medical advice; consumer-facing products should carry appropriate guidance to consult a healthcare professional, especially for anyone on prescription medication.
